Stuff I Got this Weekend

Well, I hit three Goodwills, one Restore, and one Salvation Army this past weekend.  Here are some of the crazy fun things I bought.  My Mom would have so loved being there   She loved children's chairs and desks.

My favorite find was the children school chairs.  I have no idea why they looked so cute to me but they were a buck each!  And I couldn't walk away....(Just maybe another random kick coming here?)  I just know I can do something here and I LOVE a real challenge.  PLUS - my kids thought they were gross and laughed hysterically when they saw them - even more reason........:)

Other finds - My first cheese Dome that I can make my First Cloche!  Been looking for one of these a long time!  Snapped it up at Goodwill for $2   :)
The green cover on the top of the jar on the right comes off and this could be a great piece for the succulent terrarium I've been wanting.  (I have some succulent plants left over from my  Pink Shutter post)
Let's see what happens.......
Heading over to Pinterest   That's where I go to chill :)

Old Pink Shutter and Chalk Paint Clay Pots - Succulents too!

A good while ago I found some old shutters and a small window at one of my favorite haunts - the Habitat Restore here in town.   Total for all three was $5!
Each shutter was painted white (left) on one side and the other was pretty weathered (right).  I chose to use the weathered side because the painted side was pretty much what I would call gloppy and just a bad paint job.  I was drawn to the more rustic side.

Funfetti Cookies!!!

I know I know - Pillsbury Funfetti cake mix and icing have been around a LONG time!
Know how I know?  My 21 year old baby girl never wanted anything else for her Birthday cake!  We are BIG Funfetti (and Pillsbury doughboy) fans here!  So when we saw the recipe for cookies using this mix it was a no brainer.
This recipe has been around and you probably made some years ago but just in case - check it out here!
And thanks to Nothing But Country for the inspiration for my cookie stand!  Not as cute as their cupcake stand but I'll be working on that later.  :)

Cardboard!

Wait! Don't throw that box in the recycling can just yet!   I'm starting to see cardboard creations pop up, especially on pinterest.  I have loved this stuff ever since I had to make a chair with corrugated cardboard as a project in my few years as a design student.  (First baby came along, hubby decided to go to night school for MBA and so it went on the back burner)   Not complaining - I'm loving my life!
So - I have been hoarding saving corrugated cardboard boxes because I knew I could use them one day.  And like not sending things to the landfill!
Today, I used the Vitatops box that my oldest daughter bought at a great price through Hungry Girl.  (No endorsement here - she really did buy them and loves HG!)  They came in this sturdy box.  So, when I decided to make a cardboard project this was the box!
I cut off one of the box lids (Flaps?  Not sure what you call it)  then scored it every half inch.
Gently stared turning it into a cylinder

Pantone inspired Paint!

Maybe I am so behind the times (and so clueless as usual) but as I was walking through the paint section at Lowe's I saw a display I have never seen before.  And I go there and Home Depot every day  A LOT!   It was a small section of something called My Color paint inspired by Pantone.   Seriously?

  Here is their scoop

MyColor™ inspired by PANTONE® gives consumers a clear and dramatic view of the color palette directly from the container and delivers not too much but just the right amount of paint for small projects in a 35 ounce container. This translates to less waste and less strain on the environment.
– Ultra Low VOC, Low Odor
– Factory Precision Color
– Stain Blocking, Self Priming
– Washable Eggshell Finish

MyColor Phantom
Well - needless to say I was as wide eyed as a kid in a candy shop.  New paint =  New adventures!  And of course there is a quart of the color of the year - Honeysuckle!
Just wondering if any of you have tried this paint?   I will be trying one tomorrow - not sure which color because that is a tough decision!
Did they make the paint containers look like cookie jars on purpose?

Just Having a Little Fun!

Well here I go AGAIN   and Thank you for being so kind and patient with my randomness.!  Sometimes we all need to let loose and just have some fun.  I do that every so often - just come up with random fun laughy stuff.
Last one was my Monopoly Money bucket that put smiles on lots of faces.  THAT makes me happy.
Part of that random kick was making a moss covered piggy bank.  Don't know why I ever thought of it - but I did  It was on my mind and I couldn't stop until I tried.  You know that drill - at least if you are a stubborn Taurus that never gives up like me  :)  Part of being random is not knowing how in the world you ever thought of it but having fun with it anyway!
It all started here
What I used - a Piggy Bank bought at Marshall's on their clearance isle - $2 and a $2 bag of moss from Walmart  Then add some glue gun magic!
Wrapped wax paper around a piece of cardboard to put in the money slot so it doesn't get covered up with moss   Not a good thing for a Piggy Bank!
Drizzle that glue over a section then pat some moss over it.  I pretty much covered a 1 to 2 inch section at a time.  Work fast but be careful if it is a hot glue gun.  Not fun getting hot glue on your fingers.  Trust me.
Here's my baby!  So Cute  He is getting  a special place in my house
Here on top of our piano
Ready for some Monyay :)  Monopoly Money!
Next up really quick cheap redos!

Strawberry basket from my favorite farm.  Ya think I would be able to toss it?  Not!  Sprayed that baby with Valspar Mediterranean   Making something happen with it soon :)

It's sitting on top of
the shutters I bought at Restore for $1 each) I'm  testing chalk paint vs. homemade chalkboard paint  (semi gloss latex with unsanded grout)  A work in progress but so far I like it.  Not as smooth and creamy as Annie Sloan but it covers well.   Let's see what happens  :)

A touch of Paris!

While at Hobby Lobby the other day, buying some 50% off ribbon, I spotted this fabric and it was love at first sight!
But first I have to say sorry - the photography leaves much to be desired
Tell you why at the end of my post! :)
This fabric just screams Paris!  At first I thought I would just make pillows or seat covers out of it.   But I realized the images were spread out enough that I could  use them as appliques on some more burlap pillows. :)  I did save enough fabric to make pillows, or a simple backpack, or maybe even cover another of my ceiling tiles to make a bulletin board.  I'll keep you posted!
So I cut out some fusible iron on interfacing and placed pieces on the back of the fabric just over the designs I wanted to use.  Then ironed them on and cut them out.
I decided on using three of them in different sizes to use on different sized pillows.  Pulled some natural (tan), black, and pink burlap from my burlap stash.  The pink burlap was the last of some I dyed with RIT Fuchsia for a project several months ago.  Think I will try Turquoise next - I can't get enough of that color!)

First pillow was an envelope pillow just like my Bless My Mess pillow.  I cut out one 11"x11" piece and two 8"x8" pieces.  They had 1/2 inch seams so I added an inch to the size.  The finished pillow here was 10"x10".  But I bet you already know how to do this!  You could also cut one large piece of fabric and follow these directions from Martha Stewart

Next pillow was a lovely Parisian lady on a smaller burlap pillow.
Cut out two 8"x10" pieces.  This is just a basic slip stitched pillow.
Not my best effort, the edges are sort of wonky but you get the idea, I hope.
Last one I made very small  Used two 4"x4" pieces.  I'll probably redo this one and make it into a sachet or a pin cushion.  I just love the sketchy look of the fabric print.  You bet you'll be seeing more of it!
Enjoy your week you lovely people!
